West Kentucky Rural Telephone Chooses Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform to Speed IPTV Roll-Out

West Kentucky Rural Telephone Chooses Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform to Speed IPTV Roll-Out

BEDFORD, Mass., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq: AWRE), a leading supplier of broadband technology and DSL test and diagnostics solutions, today announced that West Kentucky Rural Telephone Cooperative has selected Aware's Dr. DSL® Line Diagnostics Platform as its IPTV and DSL line testing solution. The Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform (LDP) is an advanced test and diagnostics server-based solution that, when used in conjunction with West Kentucky's installed access equipment, offers a comprehensive, centralized system for analysis and diagnostics of the carrier's DSL lines.

"As we push out the edge of our copper loops and roll out DSL-based IPTV video services to our subscribers, we needed a robust, centralized provisioning and line diagnostics tool to help us troubleshoot and quickly and efficiently resolve any line discrepancies," commented Craig Sullivan, Plant Superintendent of West Kentucky. "Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform offered us an ideal server-based solution that works seamlessly with our installed Occam BLC equipment, enabling us to ensure the service levels and troubleshoot the subscriber lines of our new bandwidth-intense broadband and IPTV service offerings."

Over the last several years, West Kentucky has demonstrated pioneering leadership in achieving a network to compete for video customers. In 2007, West Kentucky became one of the original beta customers for the National Rural Telecommunication Cooperative (NRTC)-sponsored initiative to bring IPTV to rural customers and has approximately 18,000 subscribers in Western Kentucky and Northwestern Tennessee. The carrier uses Occam Networks' BLC 6000 equipment and OccamView™ Element Management System.

Aware's Dr. DSL LDP is a software-based server solution with a robust standard-compliant testing and service assurance technology which helps service providers reduce costs, eliminate unnecessary equipment, and ensure the highest quality-of-experience (QoE) for their customers. LDP works with multiple technology platforms and is unique in that it is compatible with multiple DSLAMs and chipset vendors and requires no additional equipment. As an integrated software-based solution, it combines the raw single-ended testing (SELT) and dual-ended testing (DELT) diagnostics data with Aware's award-winning Dr. DSL software, which has been used to deploy millions of DSL lines worldwide.

"Accurate data rate estimates are critical for assuring service levels on copper lines providing IPTV," commented Peter LeBlanc, Aware's vice president of sales and marketing. "Using our Dr. DSL LDP, West Kentucky now has a cost-effective tool to confidently categorize its copper plant, both through initial baseline service activation tests as well as ongoing tests to track circuit changes over time."

Aware's Dr. DSL LDP and evaluation platforms are available immediately either from Aware, Inc. or through reseller Occam Networks as an additional option for its BLC 6000 product line. More information about Aware's Dr. DSL Line Diagnostics Platform can be found on Aware's website at www.aware.com/ldp.
