Aware Software and Development Services Enable State-of-the-Art Fingerprint Card Scanning

BEDFORD, Mass., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc. (Nasdaq: AWRE), a global provider of imaging and biometrics software, today announced that it has been contracted to contribute software and development services to Lockheed Martin's high-performance fingerprint card scanning service. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently awarded Lockheed Martin a five-year, $47 million contract to continue managing the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Card Scanning Service (CSS) program. The contract covers the conversion of paper fingerprint, palm print and photo records into high-quality electronic records for the FBI.

Aware offers an off-the-shelf software product called AccuScan that, together with flatbed document scanners, provides a solution for conversion of fingerprint cards to compliant digital records. Consultative and development services provided to Lockheed Martin included detailed technical analysis of the challenge and custom modifications to the AccuScan product that enabled a low-cost, high-speed fingerprint card scanning solution with new advanced features, such as the ability to perform daily image quality and scanning performance monitoring and analysis.

"Aware's off-the-shelf software components have enabled hundreds of large systems with critical biometric image and data processing functions for many years," commented Rob Mungovan, vice president of Aware's biometrics group. "But the expertise upon which the success of our products is based also lends itself to providing system integrators with services that solve unique problems, differentiate their offerings, and push the performance of their biometric solutions to new levels."
